The Damage You Can See Is Often Only the Beginning

A pile-up is one of the most serious and potentially damaging incidents that can occur on an escalator.

While the immediate damage may appear to be broken steps and visible components, significant damage can remain hidden within the machine.

Step chains can stretch, guides and tracks can bend, and rollers, brackets and other components can be affected by the forces involved.

SPECIALIST HANDRAIL TRAINING & EXPERTISE

Handrail splicing, vulcanisation, repairs and replacement are among Vertesc Ltd's core specialisations.

Our engineers undertake specialist training with handrail manufacturers including Böttcher and Semperit, developing an understanding of their different handrail systems, materials and splicing procedures.

Alongside manufacturer training, we provide practical in-house development covering handrail preparation, cutting techniques, joint formation and the challenges encountered during on-site repairs and replacements.

By combining hands-on experience with manufacturer-specific knowledge, we aim to maintain high standards of workmanship across our specialist handrail services.

Specialist Pile-Up Rectification

At Vertesc Ltd, we specialise in assessing and rectifying escalator pile-ups.

Our engineers safely remove damaged components and clear the machine, allowing access to areas that would otherwise remain hidden.

Where possible and safe to do so, we then restore controlled movement to assist with a thorough inspection and establish the full extent of the damage.

    Our Approach

MAKE SAFE → REGAIN ACCESS → INSPECT → IDENTIFY DAMAGE → PLAN THE REPAIR

This enables us to identify damaged components and produce a clear list of parts and remedial

      works required.

HOARDINGS & ESCALATOR PROTECTION

Before specialising in escalator engineering, our director qualified as a carpenter and gained extensive experience constructing temporary hoardings and protective enclosures around escalators.

Combining this practical carpentry background with specialist escalator knowledge allows us to provide solutions suited to the equipment, site layout and project requirements.

Modular & Timber Hoardings

Our experience includes modular Quick-Click-style hoarding systems and traditional timber-built enclosures, designed to separate escalator work areas from surrounding public spaces.

Installations can incorporate access doors and site-specific configurations to accommodate engineering works within shopping centres, construction sites and other busy environments.

Whether using modular panels or bespoke timber construction, we understand the importance of practical access, effective separation and a professional finished appearance.

Escalator Protection During Construction

Escalators can be vulnerable to dust, debris and accidental damage while construction, fit-out and refurbishment works take place around them.

We have experience constructing timber-framed, boarded and wrapped protection systems to help safeguard escalators during these activities.

From partial protective coverings to full-length enclosures, each arrangement can be adapted to the dimensions of the escalator and the requirements of the surrounding works.

                   DISCUSS YOUR SPECIALIST PROJECT

Some photographs show works personally undertaken by our director before Vertesc Ltd was established in December 2025. They demonstrate relevant experience and do not imply those projects were carried out under Vertesc Ltd contracts.

From specialist handrail works and pile-up rectification to temporary hoardings and escalator protection, contact Vertesc Ltd to discuss your project requirements.
